Description

The first public meeting of the inquiry committee on the 2020 Hanau shooting attacks took place on Friday, Wiesbaden, at the Hesse state parliament.

’"We are not hoping for wonders, but we had to take this step to get answers to our questions, which we have not received for the past 22 months, neither from the authorities nor from politicians," explained Cetin Gultekin, brother of one of the attack victims.

"That we are standing here today is already a sign for that we have been left alone, if we were not left alone we would not be here today,” Gultekin added.

In February 2020, a 43-year-old German citizen from Hanau opened fire outside a shisha bar at Heumarkt district, driving off to a second location in Kesselstadt district, where he opened fire again. The double shooting left 10 people dead, with five injured, before the perpetrator and his 72-year-old mother were found dead at his address.
