Description

The members of opposition rally against Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko attacked a water cannon which was spraying coloured water on the protesters in Minsk on Sunday.

The members of the rally opened vehicle’s special panel and took out the canister with paint. The protesters also threw some objects into the vehicle.

After the water cannon was damaged it was driving the streets of Belarusian capital spraying the water above the heads of riot police officers.

Shortly after the video became viral, many Internet users compared the water cannon to a driving fountain or a whale as the water spray was directed vertically.

Belarus has been swept by anti-government protests following the disputed presidential election of August 9 that saw incumbent president Alexander Lukashenko re-elected for a sixth term.

On August 19 the European Union announced sanctions against "a substantial number of individuals responsible for violence, repression, and election fraud" in Belarus.

European Union and the USA imposed sanctions against a number of Belarusian officials who were allegedly accused of vote-rigging and political repression.
