Description

A destroyed Israel armoured personnel carrier (APC) can be seen among the rubble in the northern Gaza Strip neighbourhood of Shujaiya on Tuesday, following nearly two weeks of fighting in the area.

The date of destruction and exact type of APC could not be independently verified. The Hamas militant group published a photograph of the APC on its Telegram channel on July 3, saying it had been targeted by Palestinian groups but without providing any further details.

On Tuesday, the Israel military also said it had ‘eliminated’ more than ‘150 terrorists’ and dismantled 'Hamas infrastructure', destroying "six tunnels about 6 km long" in the area.

The Israeli Defence Forces announced the launch of the new operation in Shujaiya on June 28, targeting locations "above and below the ground following intelligence indicating terrorists and infrastructure in the area".

The IDF added that it carried out raids in which it ‘eliminated’ dozens of "terrorists who were hiding in UNRWA schools and facilities".

Fighting between Israel and Hamas in Gaza broke out after the Palestinian group launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel on October 7, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200, according to Israeli officials.

In the Gaza Strip, the Israeli army launched a large-scale campaign of air strikes and a ground incursion. According to the Palestinian side, at least 38,000 people have been killed.
