Description

Police arrived in the centre of Yerevan as opposition supporters rallied in front of the building of the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday.

Dozens of protesters gathered close to the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expecting Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to arrive.

The opposition reportedly summoned their supporters to intervene in Pashinyan's work visit to the Armenian Foreign Ministry, having published the call on their Facebook page.

On Wednesday, Armenian President Armen Sargsyan's press office announced a meeting on March 13 between the Prime Minister, the leaders of the parliamentary factions and representatives of the Homeland Salvation Movement. The opposition leaders are yet to respond to the invitation.

Anti-Pashinyan protests began in November 2020 after the Armenian Prime Minister signed the Russian-brokered deal to end the fighting between Azerbaijani and Armenian forces over the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Under the terms of the trilateral agreement, a number of Nagorno-Karabakh districts have officially handed control over to Azerbaijan.
