Over 500 athletes took part in the 'One Run' half-marathon in Giza as Egypt joined 15 other countries in the global event organised by the Hero League.

Footage filmed on Sunday shows the athletes running in the Great Pyramids of Giza valley, going up and down hills under the relentless Egyptian sun.

The runners were offered a number of distances including one, five, ten and 21 kilometres.

Some of the runners praised the atmosphere of the marathon describing it as 'pleasant,' and 'enjoyable.'

"The atmosphere is pleasant, with many people participating. It's a historic place, the oldest place on Earth. You're running and seeing history all around you," said a competitor Rasha Mostafa.

"Despite the hot weather, the run was great, and I was participating in the 10 kilometres. It's enough that one is running amidst the pyramids and history. Honestly, it was an experience I was looking forward to, and I hope to repeat it again," shared another runner Hesham Ahmed.

'One Run' global event attracts athletes from all over the world, uniting 180,000 participants from Russia, China, Brazil, Belarus, UAE, Cameroon, Nepal and other countries.
