Crew-8 members returned to Earth aboard the Dragon 'Endeavour' on Friday, concluding SpaceX's longest human spaceflight mission at the International Space Station (ISS).
Footage shows the Dragon capsule entering the planet's atmosphere, approaching the water and making a splash-down landing in the Gulf of Mexico, just off the coast of Florida. The recovery team can then be seen recovering the capsule and helping pull the astronauts out of the vessel.
The spacecraft landed at 3:30 EDT (7:30 GMT) after departing the ISS on Wednesday.
The four astronauts aboard the Dragon are NASA's Commander Matthew Dominick, pilot Michael Barratt, mission specialist Jeanette Epps, as well as Russia's Roscosmos cosmonaut Alexander Grebenkin.
The crew spent 235 days in space, the longest duration of any manned SpaceX mission. Their spacecraft broke the record as "the longest mission Dragon has spent on-orbit to date," according to SpaceX.
Crew-8's return was delayed several times since the end of August, when the mission was set to end. The delays were caused by problems during Boeing's Starliner test flights, Hurricane Milton and bad weather conditions in Florida.
The astronauts were launched into orbit aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket on March 3, 2024 and spent over seven months conducting scientific research at the ISS. Their research included studying the movement of body fluids during spaceflight and the effect of UV radiation and weightlessness on plant development.
