Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov described his conversation with US President Joe Biden during a lunch for the leaders of the G20 summit delegations as ‘brief but useful.’  Russia’s top diplomat made the comments on Pavel Zarubin's programme 'Moscow. Kremlin. Putin' on the Russia-1 television channel in Rome on Monday.

Lavrov said that during the conversation, Biden conveyed his greetings to Russian President Vladimir Putin and also "stressed the focus on further contacts."

"We also briefly discussed how these contacts could be built up in the foreseeable future. Already conveyed this message to President Vladimir Putin. I think it will be useful for further alignment of our schedules," the foreign minister added.

Answering the journalist's next question about Russia's future plans regarding the summit of the leaders of the Normandy format countries, Lavrov said that the Foreign Ministry "sees the meaning not in the event, but in its content.”

"We have passed on to our colleagues our proposals on how the next contact in the Normandy format could be prepared in detail - no matter what level. We expect a reaction from them," the foreign minister said.

Lavrov added that his counterparts had stressed the need for the meeting, but without conveying their vision of the expected results.
