Funeral prayers were held at the Mohamed bin Abdul Wahab mosque in Doha on Friday for Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas' political bureau, who was killed in an alleged Israeli air strike on his residence in Iran after attending the inauguration of Masoud Pezeshkian as president.
Footage shows worshippers praying over Haniyeh's body in the mosque and carrying his coffin to its final resting place.
On Wednesday, Hamas announced Haniyeh's death and said his body would be taken to Doha for burial in the cemetery of the founding Imam in Lusail.
On Thursday, IDF spokesperson Hagari denied any Israeli airstrikes in the Middle East other than the one targeting Hezbollah leader Fouad Shukur stressing that 'there was no additional air strike'.
The Palestinian Authority and Iran announced three days of national mourning. Iranian President Pezeshkian said, 'Iran mourns its partner in sorrow and joy and the leader of the Palestinian resistance' and vowed that Iran would 'defend its territorial integrity' and make what he called the 'invaders' regret their 'cowardly' acts.
Several countries and movements also mourned and condemned the assassination of Haniyeh, including Russia, Iran, Syria, Qatar, the Taliban, Hezbollah, the political bureau of Ansar al-Allah (Houthis), and many others.
Ismail Abdel Salam Ahmed Haniyeh had joined Hamas since its establishment in 1987 and then was elected head of the movement's reform and change list in the Palestinian legislative elections. In 2006, he assumed the premiership in the Palestinian government after Hamas's victory in the legislative elections. Following the split between Fatah and Hamas, he took over the administration of the Gaza Strip as Prime Minister and was later elected Head of the Hamas Political Bureau.
