Foreign Ministry spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh spoke at his weekly press conference in Tehran on Monday, reporting that the West has 'retreated' in Vienna nuclear deal talks.

Khatibzadeh announced that the Iranian delegation would arrive in Vienna later on Monday, to continue talks aiming to revive a nuclear deal between Iran and several Western powers.

The spokesperson stated that Iran had 'clarified in written form' their views on the deal to the US side, so that there would be no 'misunderstanding.'

“What we have today is because of the fact that the Western parties have retreated. Or rather, because of their realism in the Vienna talks, they can have no demands beyond the JCPOA, or less than the JCPOA, in fulfilling sanctions removal commitments,” outlined Khatibzadeh.

Khatibzadeh went on to state that Iran would not accept 'phony deadlines,' and urged those involved in the deal to join Iranian officials in Vienna to 'reach a good understanding.'

Talks have been ongoing to revive the Iran nuclear deal also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) which the Donald Trump administration left in 2018.
