Description

Tunisian woman Huda Bushahda has turned her home into an animal sanctuary for over 400 cats and 20 dogs, as seen in footage from Sidi Hussein in the south-west of the capital Tunis.

"I have no job, I spend all my time with cats," she said. "I am too busy to even take a break. I depend on people's donations in different ways; there are individuals who send money, others supply food, while some people pay for the vet."

Footage shows Huda caring for the animals, with her furry friends receiving daily attention for a range of conditions. She is seen preparing food and medications, while explaining that she had had to move several times due to landlords having issues with the number of cats and dogs.

She added that her dedication had taken its toll on her on own health, but that she had become used to feeling tired and would only worry if she took a day off - even though a 'month-long break' would be very welcome if she knew her pets were getting the best care.

Huda offers some very complex care for her animals indeed, with some cats needing treatment for cancer, feline AIDS, kidney and urology issues, and diabetes.
