Description

Around 700 people took part in an Immortal Regiment march outside the Russian embassy in Beijing on Victory Day to honour the memory of fallen soldiers.

Footage shows huge crowds, including veterans, marching with banners, flags and portraits of Soviet volunteer pilots who fought alongside China against Japan in WWII.

The procession was organised by the Russian embassy and activists from Beijing’s 'Russian Club' and was attended by Russian Ambassador to China Igor Morgulov.

Victory Day commemorates Nazi Germany's surrender at the end of World War II, known in Russia as the Great Patriotic War. Russia and Eastern countries traditionally mark the day on May 9, while in Europe it is May 8, due to the time difference in the signing of the capitulation.
