Description

Factory workers took to the streets in Minsk on Monday after the visit of the Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko at the Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant (MZKT).

Employees of the MZKT and two other factories, Minsk Tractor Works (MTZ) and Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ) marched together along the capital's streets, demanding Lukashenko's resignation.

Lukashenko was heckled by the factory workers while visiting the MZKT plant earlier on Monday.

The opposition has called for a general strike to protest against Lukashenko’s re-election.

Belarus has been swept by anti-government protests following the August 9 presidential election which saw Lukashenko re-elected for a sixth term.
