Hundreds of people dressed as tigers, wearing coloured bodypaint and masks, took part in the annual 'Pulikali' - or 'tiger dance' cultural folk festival - in the city of Thrissur in Kerala state on Wednesday.
"I have been performing Pulikali for the last five to eight years. Last year the team I participated in won first prize. Before that, I performed in Viyyur, and Thrissur teams, and lots of teams were there. Every year I perform in different team," explained Anandan.
Footage shows the performers dancing in their groups, as well as crowds of spectators.
The tradition dates back over 200 years. It marks the conclusion of Onam celebrations, the annual harvest and Hindu cultural festival.
