Description

Dozens of Black Lives Matter protesters gathered outside Hennepin County Government Centre on Tuesday where former police officer Derek Chauvin's trial is taking place.

Several protesters were seen carrying BLM signs along with portraits of George Floyd. Imam Johari, a representative of CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations), said during a speech, "I don't want your charity. I don't want your sympathy… I want you to demand, to fix the justice system in this country."

Johari also mentioned the eight legislative bills he has put together to end police qualified immunity and giving families the right to sue police officers.

Organisers went on to pass out padlocks to anyone who wanted to attach them to the fence outside the government centre, each padlock representing one death.

On Monday, the trial of the former police officer Chauvin begun. He has been charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter and third-degree murder after being filmed kneeling on Floyd's neck for nearly nine minutes, leading to his death.
