The Medical Expert Panel (MEP) of the Winter Games noted that there had been 32 new cases of COVID-19 in “the last 24 hours” among attendees of this year’s event, during a press conference held in Beijing on Wednesday.
“I think it is important to look at the story behind those figures. The reality is that virtually every country in the world at the moment has higher level of COVID than China does,” commented McCloskey, chair of the Beijing 2022 MEP.
“So, that means people coming in are travelling from a higher level of COVID to a lower level,” added McCloskey.
According to McCloskey, this latest figure means that the total number of COVID cases in the event has risen to 232 since January 23.
Beijing's Winter Games will formally begin on Friday and are scheduled to finish on February 20.
