The Russian Orthodox Church baptised dozens of locals in Malawi in footage taken on Thursday, with the organisation reporting that nearly 1,000 people had joined the denomination.
Footage shows the ceremony in Lake Chilwa, Phalombe district, which is on the border between Malawi and Mozambique, almost 100 kilometres from the city of Blantyre.
Three Russian church leaders joined their Malawian counterparts to conduct the baptism, while Konstantin of Zaraisk, Patriarchal Exarch of the Russian Orthodox Church in Africa was among them.
The event was co-ordinated by the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa.
