Children and staff at Gatwick airport sang a rendition of Christmas carols on Thursday to try and raise the spirits of holidaymakers left stranded after the runway was closed.

Thousands of people’s travel plans were ruined when two drones were reportedly seen hovering near a runway on Wednesday, prompting air traffic controllers to stop all flights while authorities investigated. Continued drone sightings led to the further cancellation of flights with the runway reopening for the first time on Friday.
