Description

Gaza residents including shop owners and municipal workers launched an effort to clean and rebuild their city following the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, on Saturday.

Municipal workers could be seen clearing the streets from the rubble of buildings destroyed by the Israeli airstrikes, while shopkeepers repaired their storefronts.

Gaza Municipality Head of Solid Waste Department Majed Sukkar explained, "Our message is that all members of society must stand by each other and remove the remnants and effects of aggression, and the donor countries must rise up and help the residents who were displaced from their homes and those whose homes were bombed."

Events began to escalate nearly a fortnight ago over the planned eviction of Palestinian families from the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood of Jerusalem before spiralling into a deadly exchange of fire between Gaza and Israel.

The conflict led to over 240 fatalities on the Palestinian side and 12 on the Israeli side, according to the respective authorities.
