Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he, as a person with a legal background, can be 'a lawyer for Santa Claus,' speaking during a large press conference in Moscow on Thursday.

The Russian President said this, commenting on the question of a Vologda journalist about a lawsuit filed by a St. Petersburg lawyer against Santa Claus, known as Grandfather Frost in Russia, for failure to fulfill desires.

"Since I am also a lawyer, I can be a lawyer for Santa Claus and remind the plaintiff that Santa Claus fulfills wishes and gives gifts only to good girls and boys. Let him analyse his behavior and find what prevents Santa Claus from presenting him for the New Year holidays" said Putin.

The leader also answered a question about his own New Year's wishes. According to Putin, his relationship with Santa Claus 'has been built in a good-looking way,' and the Russian leader is grateful to Santa for being the president of Russia.

"I am grateful to him that I can meet with you here today in the capacity in which I am," said the leader.

During the press conference, the topic of coronavirus restrictions was also raised. Putin noted that during the work, members of the government sit at a distance of three meters from each other, although this is not often shown on television.

Answering the question of why during his trips to Siberia with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, he does not invite Prime Minister Mishustin with him, Putin recalled an old Jewish anecdote.

"If we also take Mishustin with us. Remember this old Jewish anecdote: "Who will stay in the shop?" Who will work?" said the Russian leader.

Putin added that each member of the government bears 'a huge burden for the situation in the country,' and therefore everyone leaves on vacation in due time, having previously coordinated the vacation with the president personally.

Putin noted that Siberia has been one of his favorite vacation spots since the 2000s, and he called the Siberians themselves 'the golden fund of Russia' with its 'unique ecosystem, unique people,'

This year, 507 representatives of Russian and foreign media have been accredited to participate in the press conference with the president.
