Description

US Vice President and expected Democratic nominee Kamala Harris released of a video of former president Barack and his wife Michelle Obama endorsing her campaign on Friday.

Footage shows Harris apparently taking a phone-call from the Obamas. Michelle is heard saying "this is going to be historic" while Barack adds that "I couldn't be prouder to endorse you and to do everything we can to get you through this election and into the Oval Office."

The video ends with Harris saying: "We're going to have some fun, aren't we?"

Harris became the expected nominee after Joe Biden announced he was dropping out of the campaign on Sunday. It followed months of health concerns and media scrutiny over his cognitive abilities, which escalated following a much-criticised debate with Donald Trump.

While donors and key Democratic figures have endorsed Harris, she would only become the official nominee following a vote of delegates at next month's convention. Around 3,004 have pledged to do so, over the threshold of 1,976 required.
