Description

Venezuelan opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez called on international supporters to recognise opposition politician Juan Guaido as interim president of Venezuela, during a press conference in Bogota on Thursday.

"We Venezuelans cannot do it alone," Lopez said at the presser.

"We need the help of the world to continue pressuring the dictatorship of (President) Nicolas Maduro," he added.

The opposition activist also alleged that the recent legislative elections in Venezuela were a 'fraud.' They were won on Sunday by parties and groups supportive of Maduro after much of the opposition boycotted the vote.

Lopez fled from Venezuela in late October, after having spent 18 months in the Spanish ambassador’s residence in Caracas to avoid house arrest.
