Description

After a powerful earthquake hit Morocco, survivors in Tahanaout are facing tough times as they wait for help from the government and volunteers. With their homes damaged or destroyed, they've had to sleep in temporary tents.

Footage filmed on Friday shows the make-shift shelters housing locals who struggle to normalise their lives following the tragedy.

One earthquake survivor expressed their desperation, highlighting the absence of daily aid and the impact on people's livelihoods, as many have been unable to work due to the earthquake's aftermath.

"We slept on the street before the arrival of these tents. We are waiting for daily aid because no one is working anymore, as everyone has stopped working in hotels or other jobs. May God help us, you are the first to visit us here and take part in this initiative," said an earthquake-inflicted person.

The survivors are reliant on supply aid for their basic needs.

"We are unable to believe what had happened. Initially, there was nothing on the street, but then we gradually took items out of our homes and lived outdoors. Only those who could secure food can eat, May God help the others who rely on the supply aid," said another earthquake-inflicted person.

The earthquake, with a magnitude of 6.8, struck southwest of Marrakesh, resulting in the tragic loss of nearly 2,862 lives and injuring thousands more. The rescue efforts face time constraints as they search for survivors in the rubble of devastated villages in Morocco's Atlas Mountains.

Morocco has welcomed help from countries like Qatar, Spain, the UAE, and the UK. They've sent search and rescue teams, and these international teams are working together with Moroccan authorities to provide crucial assistance in the aftermath of this disaster.
