Thousands gathered in central Tokyo on Saturday for the Bon Odori Shibuya festival, part of a series of festivals held across the Japanese capital in the summer months as a celebration of people's ancestors. The festival took place next to the Shibyua 109 shopping centre at the famous Shibuya crossing.
Footage shows people gathering around a 'yagura', or festival tower, to dance together in synchronized movements and enjoy the music.
"There were many people from overseas and it was fun to dance with them. It was like it wasn't just the Bon dance I knew, but more. Different people could have fun together, and I had fun too," said Yoko, a local resident.
Both locals and tourists from various countries participated in the festival.
"It was really vibrant and I really loved the combination between the old rhythm of the music surrounded by such a modern environment," said a tourist from Italy.
The Shibuya Bon Odori festival has been held since 2017, and traffic in the centre of Tokyo is blocked for the duration of the festival. Food and entertainment stalls are also available for visitors to the festival.
