Almost a year after Iran mistakenly shot down Ukrainian International Airlines (UIA) flight PS752, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani renewed calls for the perpetrators of the incident to be put on trial.

"Those who caused this incident will certainly be tried in court for negligence," said Rouhani in a cabinet meeting in Tehran on Wednesday.

Rouhani discussed the compensation for the families of the deceased passengers adding, "the perpetrators must be tried with due diligence with its own conditions and in a fair trial."

The Iranian President once again emphasised Tehran would be welcoming the administration of US President-elect Biden if Washington signals its goodwill by upholding its obligations.

Flight PS752 crashed minutes after take-off from Tehran's Imam Khomeini International Airport, on January 8 2020, killing all 176 passengers and crew on board.

A diplomatic spat ensued as Western leaders blamed Iran for shooting down the plane, which Iran denied at first.

On January 11, Iran's military admitted "unintentionally" shooting down the plane.
