Excavators could be seen removing wreckage of damaged and collapsed buildings while residents were watching the operation which was assisted by an Iraqi rescue team.

On February 6, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit Turkey and Syria, with a second slightly smaller tremor later on that day. Thousands of buildings collapsed in Turkey and Syria, including the Citadel of Aleppo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The death toll in both countries has risen to over 46,000.
