Description

Hundreds gathered outside the Brooklyn Center Police Department just outside Minneapolis on Monday evening to demand justice for a black man who was killed by the police at the weekend.

Daunte Wright, 20, was killed on Sunday after being pulled over for a traffic violation and there was a struggle while he was trying to get back into his car. Wright was shot by an officer and was later pronounced dead after he crashed his car a few blocks away from the traffic stop.

"If the city manager goes over the chief of police, the city manager is gone. Once the city manager is gone, next we need the chief of police to go and we need this woman who fired that bullet to get the fuck out of her position," roared protester Ishmael Jordan during the demonstration.

A police statement released on Monday said the incident was an accident and the officer intended to use a taser not a gun on Wright. Tensions in nearby Minneapolis are high as the trial of an ex-officer accused of killing George Floyd continues.

"We're gonna have that police officer gone. We don't just want her fired, we need her charged. What happened was murder. She needs to be charged and she needs to be charged right now," exclaimed a protester using a megaphone.
