Polish border forces deployed water cannon against migrants as tensions escalated at the Bruzgi checkpoint on Tuesday.
Groups of migrants were seen throwing rocks and other projectiles at Polish police across the border fencing near Bruzgi. The Polish side in response fired water cannon and deployed tear gas and pepper spray in order to disperse the migrants who are seeking to cross the border into the EU.
Warsaw has increased the number of forces on the border to repel the migrants and have also brought in special equipment.
The migrant crisis comes amid escalating tensions between the EU and Belarus. Brussels has accused Lukashenko of orchestrating the migrant flow as part of a 'hybrid war' designed to put pressure on the bloc over sanctions. Minsk has denied the allegations.
Poland last month strengthened border patrols on the frontier with Belarus and put up a barbed-wire fence in place in an attempt to stem the flow.
