Description

Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla decried a new set of travel and trade restrictions for Cuba announced by US President Donald Trump, as he spoke to RT in Vienna, Tuesday.

“Using the expression of President Trump himself, I would say that his speech last Friday reminds us of ‘witch hunts,” Rodriguez said.

Cuba’s top diplomat then joked that Trump “could have blamed us for global warming as well, but he doesn’t recognise it really.”

"I do not see any pragmatism in the decisions that President Donald Trump voiced. I see this as a return to the approach that was applied during the Cold War," Rodruiguez said.

Despite the new sanctions, Rodriguez assured that the Cuban government will continue to “maintain dialogue, cooperate and conduct negotiations on issues of bilateral relations with the United States," noting that such cooperation “will be based on absolute respect for the equality and sovereignty” of his country.

Last Friday, Trump announced that his administration would introduce a new set of travel and trade restrictions for Cuba, in a significant shift from the Obama administration's attempts to reopen US-Cuban relations.
