Description

A warm welcome to the tourists from the first direct flight from China after lifting pandemic restrictions was organised in International Airport of Bali on Thursday.

Footage shows performers in traditional outfits dancing and greeting Chinese tourists who were receiving welcome gifts and flower necklaces at the time of the Chinese New Year also known as Spring Festival.

Governor of Bali Wayan Koster shared hopes about ‘Bali reviving again’ upon the increase of Chinese tourists number.

“With this situation we want Bali to revive again, especially tourists from China. In 2019 tourists from China totaled 1.2 million, and today the initial return of tourists from China was 210 people. We hope that around 70 per cent of Chinese tourists visiting Bali from 2019 can be achieved this year,” he said.

The first flight from Shenzhen after years of closed borders amid COVID-19 pandemic reportedly carried around 210 passengers.

From January to October 2022 Indonesia recorded approximately 94,924 visits from China. According to Lion Air spokesperson Danang Mandala Prihantoro, the country is aiming at achieving 255,000 tourists from China in 2023. The Minister of Tourism Sandiaga Uno also announced that Indonesia's perspective is to record 3.5 million to 7.4 million visits from foreign countries.
