Hundreds of motorcyclists rode through the streets of Madrid on Saturday in the 'Papanoelada' parade, an event organised by the International Police Association (IPA).

Footage shows bikers dressed up as Santa Claus, elves, and other Christmas characters in decorated motorcycles, some of them carrying gifts on the back of the vehicles or in trailers.

Antonio Montejano, Road Safety Commissioner of the Municipal Police of Madrid, said that 'Papanoelada', or the Santa Claus Rally, is 'a gathering of police officers and friends of the International Police Association, motorcycling enthusiasts, who participate in this event consisting of riding around Madrid on motorbikes dressed as Santa Claus.'

"We would also like to take this opportunity to send a message to car drivers, not only today but in general, to be respectful and careful with motorcyclists in order to avoid traffic accidents", Montejano added.

The 'Papanoelada' began to take place in 2010, with the only participation requirement of wear a Santa Claus costume.
