Description

Local restauranteurs in Mexico City attempted to break the record for the world's largest sandwich at the 'Torta' Fair held in the Mexico's capital on Wednesday.

Footage shows the chefs preparing ingredients, before layering ingredients like sausage, grilled meat, vegetables and sauces onto giant loafs of bread laid out in a row to create the super-size snack. The chefs then portioned the sandwich before distributing it to customers waiting in excitement.

"It is very satisfying because we strive to offer quality to our customers," shared Ebeh Hernandez, one of the chefs taking part in assembling the sandwich.

"It is very nice to be surrounded by people who are interested in this event," she added.

"They don't know what they are missing!" said Yolanda Sanchez as she munched on the sandwich.

The sandwich reached a length of 76 metres, breaking last year's record of 246 feet (74.98 metres). Weighing in a hefty 950 kilogrammes, the monster sub took 400 chefs just 2 minutes and 17 seconds to assemble, according to organisers.

The 'Torta' Fair is held annually, with this year marking the 19th edition of the event. According to organisers, more than 500 visitors attended the five-day event last year, while about 80 exhibitors from various countries also came to the fair to ply their wares.
