On Saturday, the United Arab Emirates launched its first Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite from the Vandenberg Space Base in California.

Footage shows the SpaceX Transporter 11 carrying the SAR lifting off from the launch pad.

Both 'Bayanat', a provider of geospatial AI-powered solutions, and 'Yahsat', a space communications company, announced the successful launch of the UAE's first Earth observation satellite program.

"The launch of our first satellite is a significant achievement for our joint efforts and the future of the region. We are proud at Bayanat company of this milestone, which marks a crucial step that shapes our future," said Bayanat representative Hassan Al Hosni.

"The SAR satellite, which will be launched over the next three years, will allow us to expand as a satellite operator across multiple orbits, including geostationary satellites and low Earth orbit satellites, while developing satellite manufacturing capabilities within the country," added Ali Al Hashimi, CEO of the Yahsat Group.

Previously, the UAE launched the 'Hope Probe' on an uncrewed mission to Mars in 2020, officially marking the country's entry into the global space exploration race.
