Description

China's Foreign Ministry (MOFA) warned of potential retaliation against US President Donald Trump's decision to impose tariffs and expressed her hope that the US would avoid taking action that would damage both countries during a briefing in Beijing on Friday.

"It is impolite not to reciprocate. China won't sit idly and see it own legitimate interests being infringed but fight to the end," the MOFA spokesperson Hua Chunying said.

Hua said China will also make all necessary measures to protect itself, with Beijing urging the US to consider global interests as well as itself.

Trump signed an order on Thursday to pave the way for imposing tariffs to punish China for 'stealing American technology.' Financial markets dropped following the risk of a growing commercial conflict between China and the US and the possibility that China will impose retaliatory tariffs on US products.
