Police in Abu Dhabi have announced the launch of four smart guidance robots to increase road safety awareness and encourage drivers to abide by traffic laws.

Footage captured on Tuesday shows locals interacting with the new robots stationed at the Directorate of Traffic and Patrols. The robots can speak with residents in both Arabic and English, informing them of traffic violations filed against them.

"These robots aimed at promoting traffic culture in a modern and creative manner by interacting with the public and offering advice or pointing out specific infractions, or by playing traffic awareness videos on their screen", stated Major Ahmed Abdullah Al Muhairi, Project Manager of Smart Traffic Robots at the Directorate of Traffic and Security Patrols.

In a post on social media, Abu Dhabi Police launched the initiative, stating that the robots will 'promote awareness and education on digital traffic'.

Director of the Central Operations Sector, Major General Ahmed Saif bin Zaytoun Al Muhairi, during the inauguration of the smart robots, affirmed the Abu Dhabi Police’s interest in keeping pace with the technology revolution, which enhances the efficiency of policing and security work.

General Al Muhairi added that the use of artificial intelligence technologies enhanced efforts, shortened time, and provided fruitful results in police and security work.
