Description

Protesters gathered in East Jerusalem on Wednesday, as the Jerusalem District Court held a hearing on the appeal by 86 Palestinian families against their forced evictions from the Batn il-Hawa area of the Silwan neighbourhood in East Jerusalem.

The court adjourned without reaching a decision on the case and is set to reconvene later in the day.

This comes following the latest round of Israel-Palestine hostilities after tensions spiralled following the planned eviction of Palestinian families from East Jerusalem’s Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood, as well as repeated clashes between worshippers and Israeli police at the al-Aqsa compound, known to Jews as the Temple Mount, during Ramadan.

Subsequent violence, including rockets fired from Gaza, left 12 people dead in Israel, including two children, while an Israeli bombardment campaign killed 248 Palestinians, including 65 children. A ceasefire was announced on Thursday after 11 days of violence.
