Description

Displaced residents were seen leaving Khan Younis in southern Gaza on Saturday after the Israeli military issued a fresh evacuation order, ordering residents to move to the Al Mawasi humanitarian area.

"Now, I want to leave Khan Younis, but where can I go? There's no shelter, no house, no tent.' a displaced man said.

"Displacement, deportation, and killing, destruction everywhere. There are no houses, no infrastructure, no hospitals, the sick are dying, where to? Are we a people sentenced to death?" another displaced resident wondered.

"In light of numerous terrorist activities and rocket fire towards the State of Israel from within the western neighbourhoods of Khan Younis, remaining in that area has become dangerous," the evacuation order, which was distributed by various means of communication.

The army said it would continue to 'act against Hamas', accusing the group of using 'the residents of Gaza as a human shield'.

Footage shows long lines of cars, trucks, carts, and motorcycles loaded with furniture and personal belongings heading out of the city.

Over 190,000 Palestinians were displaced this week amid fighting in Khan Younis and Deir el-Balah in southern Gaza according to the UN.

The UN humanitarian affairs offiice OCHA said the evacuation directives and intense hostilities destabilised aid operations and hampered efforts to provide critical relief to civilians.

Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel on October 7, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200 according to Israeli officials.

Israel declared war on the group and a 'complete siege' of Gaza, with a large-scale campaign of air strikes. A ground incursion began at the end of the third week, with Israeli leaders vowing to 'wipe out' Hamas. Palestinian officials reported that at least 39,000 people had been killed at time of publication.

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) claimed that Hamas locations and infrastructure were targeted in the response. However, United Nations experts warned against 'collective punishment' for the people of Gaza, before predicting a 'humanitarian crisis' and then claimed that 'hell is settling in' for the region.
