Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recalled the Israel Defence Forces' (IDF) 'Iron Shield' operation to Iran earlier this year during a speech at the state memorial ceremony for its fallen soldiers in Tel Aviv on Sunday.

"The attack in Iran was precise and powerful, and achieved all its goals," he continued. "I would like to congratulate all of our soldiers and commanders in the IDF and in the security forces who were partners in the operation."

He claimed that Israel had "severely damaged Iran's defence capacity and its ability to produce missiles aimed at us" following the attack.

The prime minister also highlighted its plan on 'cutting off the octopus arms of Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas', stating: "Yesterday, we hit the head of the octopus, the Iranian regime."

"To the people of Iran, I say, our struggle is not against you, but against the regime of running that oppresses you and threatens the entire region," he followed.

Israel's top officials attended two ceremonies on Sunday, one for Israel's fallen soldiers and another for civilian casualties of the October 7 attack, according to media reports.

The ceremonies were part of a day of mourning to mark the Hebrew date of the Hamas massacre, which occurred on the Simchat Torah holiday.

In April, Iran launched hundreds of drones and missiles towards Israel in Tehran's first direct attack on the Jewish state.

It came as a response to the alleged Israeli airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus which killed at least seven members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard (IRGC), including a senior Quds Force commander. However, Israel did not claim responsibility for that attack.

The IDF earlier claimed Iran had launched '300 threats of various types' towards Israel, adding that '99 percent' of the rockets and drones had been intercepted.

On October 1, Iran launched a wave of missile strikes on Israel which it said was in response to Israel's killing of Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah and others. PM Netanyahu said that Tehran had made a 'big mistake' and warned of 'consequences'.

Israel is currently fighting Hezbollah with airstrikes and ground troops in southern Lebanon and conducting an ongoing offensive against Hamas in Gaza.

The Gaza conflict followed the October 7, 2023 attacks which killed 1,139 people according to the Israeli side. Over 2,600 have been reported killed in Lebanon and over 42,000 in Gaza at time of publication, according to figures released by the Lebanese and Palestinian sides.
