Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani elaborated on Iran-Russia co-operation and condemned the missile attack on Damascus international airport in his weekly presser, in Tehran on Monday.
"We have been informed that the international airport of Damascus was under military attack by the Zionist regime. Surely, such action will be condemned by the Islamic Republic of Iran, with the gravest terms," said Kanaani.
Syria claimed on Monday an Israeli missile strike had briefly put the Damascus International Airport out of service. The Israeli Defence Forces have not commented on the attack, but have previously admitted striking Iran-backed groups and arms shipments.
The Iranian spokesperson also called for the prosecution of parties implicated in the assassination of Quds Force general Qassem Soleimani, killed in a US drone attack on a Baghdad airport on January 2, 2020.
"The responsibility of the US administration, the former president of the US (Donald Trump), and every official who played a direct or indirect role in this regard [the assassination of Gen. Soleimani] are clear," said Kanaani.
Amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, the spokesperson also dismissed accusations by Ukrainian officials that Iranian-made drones had been used in carrying out a barrage of attacks on Ukraine soil in the past days.
"We advise Ukrainian officials to stop making baseless accusations against Iran and consider a proper approach to solving the crisis," the politician stated.
