Description

The 54th edition of the annual City2Surf event brought together thousands of participants in Sydney on Sunday, marking the world's largest fun run. The event saw runners of all ages and backgrounds donning a wide variety of costumes as they made their way along the 14-kilometre course.

One participant, Aidan, who was dressed as Superman, shared his long-standing tradition with the event. "This is Superman this year. It'll be my 30th year in a row running the City2Surf, so I've been doing it every year since I was 8 years old, and about 2006 I started running in the Superman costume, so I've got to keep the tradition alive," he said.

"Yeah, it's the biggest fun run in the world, so we thought we'd dress up and embrace the moment and just have fun. That's the idea. That's the idea behind it, can't take life too seriously," added runners Colleen and Alexandra.

City2Surf organisers announced that 90,000 runners had registered for this year's event, with nearly 80,000 crossing the finish line on Sunday. The event also successfully raised over $3 million (around €2.74 million) for charity.

Runners Colleen and Alexandra highlighted the event's spirit of fun and community. "Yeah, it's the biggest fun run in the world, so we thought we'd dress up and embrace the moment and just have fun. That's the idea behind it, can't take life too seriously," they explained.

The race began at Hyde Park, passed through Woolloomooloo and the challenging 'Heartbreak Hill,' and concluded at the iconic beach in Sydney's eastern suburbs.
