Description

Belarusian Emergencies Ministry personnel set up on Saturday tents on the border with Poland, to provide shelter for refugees who are hoping to be able to cross into the EU. Food and clothing is also due to be distributed to the migrants among whom are many children.

Personnel were seen pitching tents while refugees watched the process. Migrant children were spotted playing on tables next to the tents.

Chairperson of the Standing Commission of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus for Education, Science, Culture and Social Development Viktor Liskovich declared that the main goal of the authorities is "to ensure that children, women and pregnant women have access to food, and to organise the distribution of food to all other refugees today."

At the same time, he said that order in the camp is needed for the effective delivery of humanitarian aid. In addition to food and clothing, the migrants have been brought diesel generators, which will keep them warm, as well as lighting to "improve the living conditions of the refugees."

On Saturday, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko asked to rationalise and organise the delivery and distribution of humanitarian aid to refugees at the border.
