Description

Police arrested a number of students who gathered for an unauthorised Youth March in Minsk on Saturday.

Security forces were filmed detaining protesters outside the building of Minsk State Linguistic University and taking them into custody.

At a separate location in the capital, the so-called Women's March took place with participants carrying white-red-white flags as well as banners and chanting slogans. No detentions were reported during that protest.

On Tuesday Belarusian opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya delivered a 'people's ultimatum' to president Alexander Lukashenko containing three demands: his resignation, cessation of violence and release of political prisoners. Tikhanovskaya gave Lukashenko 13 days to respond.

On Friday, the Investigative committee of Belarus reported that the opposition leader was placed under an international arrest warrant for attempts to harm the national security of the country.

Belarus has been swept by anti-government protests following the disputed presidential election that saw incumbent President Lukashenko re-elected for a sixth term. Hundreds of thousands have taken to the streets in anti-government protests over the last two months.
