Moscow residents spoke regarding the current pandemic situation on Saturday, after it was reported that the country is witnessing a surge in COVID-19 cases, with one person stating that 'it's sad that we can't beat this virus.'

Resident Konstantin stated that despite having many acquaintances who have fallen ill to the virus, they are uncertain whether COVID-19 vaccination should become mandatory 'because both the vaccinated and the unvaccinated get sick.'

"It's sad that we can't beat this virus. Of course, we would like to defeat it with [vaccination]. Maybe everyone should be vaccinated," said local resident Elena.

Speaking on the possibility of a lockdown being imposed upon the city, Elena added that it would not be a 'happy thing' but noted that it might be necessary.

According to data released on Saturday by the Russian Government Communications Centre, in the past 24 hours, 57,212 national COVID-19 cases have been detected, including 16094 in Moscow.
