"This is the first time they've completely cancelled all our trains, all these acts of vandalism," said one traveller. "It's weird. It's unusual… they tell us it's until Monday, that it might be possible to resume on Monday."
"I came here to see my friends and family but don't really know what can I do," added another. "They said the traffic will be alright at 1pm, I don't really know because it's the Olympic Games, I don't really think that something will change but I hope so."
France's national rail operator SNCF advised passengers to postpone their journeys, saying it was the 'victim of several simultaneous malicious acts overnight' and specifying 'arson attacks'.
Transport Minister Patrice Vergriete called it an 'outrageous criminal act'. Up to 800,000 passengers are believed to be affected.
