Newly re-elected Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro called out his 'arch-enemy' Elon Musk, after the US billionaire described him as a 'dictator', during a briefing in Caracas on Monday.
“There is a thing called social media, which creates a virtual reality, and who controls virtual reality? Our new arch enemy, the famous Elon Musk, who in desperation shows his face, and he would like to come with his rockets and an army to invade Venezuela," Maduro claimed.
"Elon Musk, thank goodness you showed your face because we knew you were behind it all," he added, claiming the tech billionaire already controlled Argentina and Ecuador.
"He is the representation of fascist ideology in the world, economic power supporting the fascist ideology of the far-right, unnatural, anti-society, and now we have him as the arch enemy of peace in Venezuela," Maduro continued.
Earlier, Musk also posted on his X platform that Sunday's presidential vote was a 'major election fraud', without supplying any evidence.
“You are desperate, you have gone too far, Elon Musk, control yourself," Maduro added. "Whoever messes with me dries up, whoever messes with Venezuela dries up, Elon Musk, you want a fight, we are going to give it to you."
Earlier, the National Electoral Council proclaimed Maduro the winner of the election, with 51 percent to his main challenger's 44 percent. It marks his third consecutive election victory. He has been in power since 2013, while his United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) has governed the country since 2007.
Protests and celebrations have been seen across Venezuela and throughout the world. Russia, China and others congratulated Maduro, while the US said it had 'serious concerns' about the vote. The opposition also claimed it won with more than 70 percent of the votes cast, although did not provide any evidence to back the claim.
