According to local media, as many as 100 protesters gathered in front of the city’s central police station in support of the detained demonstrators.

Five arrests were made for contempt and violence against persons holding public authority, according to Bordeaux police.

Twenty-three protesters were arrested on Monday in the streets of Bordeaux during a demonstration attended by 12,000 people. Authorities accuse them of hiding their faces, throwing firecrackers at law enforcers and using fireworks.
