The Free Democratic Party (FDP) has agreed to undertake joint exploratory coalition talks with the Greens and the Social Democratic Party (SPD), leader Christian Lindner announced at a press briefing in Berlin on Wednesday.
"We have accepted the suggestion of a conversation with the SPD in order to examine commonalities that will bring our country forward," he said.
"I have just offered Mr Scholz, in coordination with the Greens, that the three of us meet tomorrow for such a discussion," he said.
Lindner added that his party was, however, still open in principle to a coalition tie-up with the Christian Democratic Party (CDU).
