Description

Hundreds of migrants gathered at the Bruzgi checkpoint on the border with Poland on Monday in hope of crossing into the European Union.

According to the Belarus State Border Committee, more than 2,000 migrants are staying on the border.

The Polish Interior Ministry has said that the migrants are preparing to storm the border and reinforcements are being drawn. Warsaw has increased the number of Polish troops on the border to 15,000.

The migrant crisis comes amid escalating tensions between the EU and Belarus. Brussels has accused Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko of orchestrating the migrant flow as part of a “hybrid war” designed to put pressure on the bloc over sanctions. Minsk has denied the claims.

Poland last month strengthened border patrols on the frontier with Belarus and put up a barbed wire fence in place in an attempt to stem the flow.
