Spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova claimed at weekly briefing on Thursday that NATO drills were held near Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines in July.

"In July this year, a NATO deep-sea drills were also held there near the island of Bornholm, this is Denmark. It is very interesting, from the point of view of western politicians' logic. In general, this region is simply stuffed with NATO military infrastructure," Zakharova said.

She added that Moscow hopes for an objective international investigation into the incidents at the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines.

"We want to believe that the international investigation into what happened at the gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea will be objective," the spokesperson said.

Zakharova went on to say that Washington had 'lost touch with reality by actually becoming a part of the conflict' in Ukraine.

"Another proof of this is the tentative agreement reached recently in the US Congress to allocate a new aid package worth almost $12 billion to the Kiev regime. The lion's share will again go to the purchase of weapons for Kiev and, of course, will 'dissipate' in the pockets of those who allocate it all. Soon the amount of US financial support to Zelensky regime will reach an astronomical sum of 26 billion dollars," she added.

Zakharova also said that Kiev is trying to repeat in Izyum the scenario with the artificial fabrication of evidence of 'crimes' by the Russian military, which was previously used in the town of Bucha.

"Now, you see, they have 'learned' from Hollywood scenarios. In order to avoid the 'punctures' that were invented by Kiev regime in Bucha, the exhumation of remains is being carried out. But it does not work to create even what was invented in Bucha. There are just so many inconsistencies that it is impossible to promote this topic any further," Zakharova stressed.

Leaks were discovered in the Nord Stream lines by both Denmark and Sweden earlier this week.

On Thursday, Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitri Peskov described the leaks found at the Nord Stream gas pipelines as 'some kind of terrorist act'.

NATO, the EU and US have blamed 'sabotage', but while not directly accusing Russia, Peskov previously dismissed insinuations in the press as 'predictable' and 'absurd'.

First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations Dmitri Polyansky also discussed convening an urgent meeting of the organisation's Security Council on Friday, in connection with the pipeline incidents.
