US Secretary of State Antony Blinken pledged support to rebuild Gaza and reaffirmed Washington's commitment to Israel's security during a joint press conference alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem on Tuesday.
Blinken added that the US will continue to support Israeli anti-missile defense system "Iron Dome" (iron dome). As well as pledging to support "urgent humanitarian reconstruction and assistance to Gaza."
Netanyahu thanked the US for supporting Israel's right to self-defence. He added, "If Hamas breaks the ceasefire and attacks Israel, our response will be very powerful."
Blinken will also meet with Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas in Ramallah in the West Bank. He will then also travel to Egypt and Jordan. It is Blinken's first visit to the Middle East as Foreign Minister.
