Russian President Vladimir Putin said mutual recognition of vaccines and vaccination certificates between Russia and the European Union is still incomplete, speaking with heads of leading Italian enterprises via videoconference from Novo-Ogaryovo on Wednesday.

Putin also claimed that a recent joint Russian-Italian comparative study of vaccines proved Russian vaccine Sputnik V had a "high efficiency."

"I would like to mention a recent joint Russian-Italian comparative study of vaccines conducted at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases in Italy. According to the results of study, the Russian vaccine Sputnik V demonstrates the highest titer of virus-neutralising antibodies to the Omicron variant," Putin stated.

In addition, Putin noted that Russia is a reliable energy supplier to Italian consumers, enabling Italian energy companies to buy gas "at far below market" prices.

"In 2021 Gazprom sent 22.7 billion cubic metres of natural gas to Italy, which is considerably more than in 2020, when 20.8 billion was sent. I would like to point out that Italian energy companies continue to work with Gazprom on the basis of long-term contracts and today they can buy gas at far below market, so-called spot prices, which rose significantly due to the cold winter and the shortage of supply," Putin said.

The Russian president added that "GDP growth is estimated to be around 4.5 per cent at the end of last year."

President of Italian-Russian Chamber of Commerce Vincenzo Trani in turn said that dialogue is "our main tool" for business and also advised entrepreneurs to look at the Russian potential.

"I have always said that the best investment, the best business is always created when there are difficulties. This is the logic I followed when I was running my own business. That is why today I especially advise and support many other entrepreneurs who look at Russia as a country of opportunity, now it is time to consider the potential of Russia," stated Trani.
